Eight core sectors growth slips to 3.6% in May

The growth of eight core sectors slowed to 3.6 per cent in May due to fall in output of coal and fertilisers.

The growth rate of eight infrastructure sectors — coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity — was 5.2 per cent in May last year.

Govt slashes interest rates on small savings schemes like PPF, KVP

The government has lowered interest rate on small saving schemes like PPF, Kisan Vikas Patra and Sukanya Samriddhi by 0.1 per cent for the July- September quarter, a move that will prompt banks to lower deposit rates.

The rates have been lowered by 0.1 per cent across the board compared to the April-June quarter.
